I have seen many posts now about silicone failures and today mine went, chaos ensued for about 5 mins whilst tank emptied itself. Luckily no real damage and managed to save livestock (10 week old tank running but i bought 2nd hand) the full set up was a steal so im not mad about it!
what im looking for is options!! i do not have the money to replace tank, cabinet etc
what are peoples thought on getting in resealed and widening the cabinet base and reinforcing as this design seems like a glaringly obvious design flaw as the front glass over hangs the cabinet,so must be under great pressure
ineed help and advice plz "red sea reefer 350"
If you're handy I do not see why you can't reseal it yourself.

If you're not handy I'd start saving money for a new tank.

You don't "reseal"l -- you fully rebuild.

New silicone dose not bond to cured silicone. They only option is to filly disassemble the entire tank and scrape every trace of cured silicone away with a razor blade. You then reassemble it all at once. That is all 8 seams in one go with proper alignment and spacing and not allowing the silicone to skin over in the process.

There is a very low probability that you will end up with a tank that is as strong as the OEM tank or as aesthetically correct, just being "handy". Moreover, doing this does not address the design flaws that are baked in. So you end up with -- at best -- another ticking time bomb.

Sorry I wasn't clear enough, but rebuild is what I meant.

And with reports of some people tearing them apart and noting the silicon came off extremely easily, it is my view that the silicon is almost certainly the cause, though I am aware there are other causes noted as well.

So,just got my tank back from the builder and i am very happy with the results,no more floating front, tank is now sitting on a plastic composite board, strengthing glass struts 2" and fully resealed. the guy disassembled glass panels and made adjustments for a very reasonable price (many thanks to Vince at https://aquarium-connections.co.uk/)
