Just went into the laundry room to turn off my RO/DI and the room was full of smoke... Seems the sensor board went out in the dryer. Good thing I was making RO/DI!!!

Please share your story's too!

Well I guess in a way if I wouldn't have had a reef tank I probably be here today, I went through a really bad time in my life and it was the only thing that kept me going for a long time until I came out of my darkness, they are truly therapeutic!

About a 2 years ago, while maintaining 1 of 2 reefs, I went under the wife's tank and seen that overnight a powerhead pluged into a powerstrip had melted and was still hot. If I hadn't been under that tank and would have brushed off maintenance that day.... oh boy, we got a fire!! Problem was a bad connection within the old powerstrip. Now i tend to leave the doors open on my stand just for safe keeping. Plus I hide things within the stand to make sure I go there each day and make sure to keep a drip loop in ALL wires.

I bought my first tank 175 bow front to help me quit a 3 pack a day smoking habit. That was 5 years ago & haven't had a smoke since.

I think your story fits into another post called my reef almost cost me my hide. i have lost a few powerstrips over the years and gotten really lucky like you

We were running a few bucks short on rent. So I sold a few frags to pay the rent and had enough left for a 12 pack!! And anytime I'm down just sitting on a salt bucket and watching the tank helps me clear my head and get a grasp on things. We watch our tanks more than TV.

my tank made for a perfect alarm one time.

i have water alram on the floors and the"beeper" is in the bedroom. the alarm went off cause the top off had a leak and triggered it.
when i got up to check it out at 2am i noticed the light on in my truck. sure enogh some kid was breaking in. i opened the door with a "incentive" for him to stop in my hands. he ran off and i did not lose my truck. was never so happy to have to clean up water
