Hi guys just Installed my new Red Sea reef 50 light on my fluval sea 13.5. Just thought I would share with you and update pictures to see how the coral growth compares to stock lighting. Currently on day 1 off a 50 day acclimatisation running both blues and whites at 45%. Blues coming on at 8am getting up to 45% at 9am until 6-30pm then down to 0% at 7.30pm. Whites come on at 8am up to 45% at 9-30am until 5pm then down to 0% at 6-30pm
Then moon kicks in at 7.30pm until 10-30pm.

Both blues and light will climb to 90% at the end of the acclimation.

Feel free to offer any advice on where you think I may benefit otherwise as this is my first marine tank and also my first aftermarket set of lights so new to this sort of thing.

Why are you cracking them so high? You don’t have any light demanding corals.

Hi thanks for reply. I have 1 piece of sps. And the light was factory set at 100% so I just turned them down to 90% as didn’t want them to run at full capacity. What would you recommend for the corals I have ? I will also be getting BTA at some point which will require more light as will sps so isn’t it best to just climatize them to more light now rather than have to do it again later ?

At 100% it's putting out around 500 PAR near the top. You don't need anything than half of that.

So would you drop it to say about 60% both blues and whites or just whites ?

Check out here. They have a PAR reading for a 20x20 tank. There's a chart on the bottom for the PAR and different color temperature setting. For example, if you want to go for a 20k look, that would be 100% blue and 25% white. This is max for that color temperature and you're getting 430 PAR max. I would say for the coral you have you would want to operate at 200-100 PAR. For half of the 20k max, that would be 50% Blue and 12% White.

Yea that looks great. Keep in mind this is the max I would go for your tank. You should proportional go lower for acclimation especially if you're coming from the stock light.

Hi guys quick update as to where my tank is at since the light upgrade. Unfortunately lost a hammer coral due to BJD but fortunately it hasn’t spread to anything else. I have just recently added and BTA, birds nest sps and a green playing monti.

what’s are thoughts?

Hi yeah the light is spot on. If you was to purchase the light for this tank you would need to Pack the light bracket out as it’s meant to for 8mm glass minimum. Since the last pictures I posted the mushroom has split natural and the indo torch has split into 5 heads. And I’ve had about 3/4” growth on my monti
