seahorses help

I need the sea horse experts out there to chime in please. i'm going to get a 2gallon fluval tank and the wife said it would be awesome if we could keep a seahorse in it. If I do this it'll be my first time with a seahorse so what can i expect? which should I get. I know 2gallons is small but can it be done?

ill be flowing right along on this little project i was thinking about doing the exact same thing the other night not very costly at all and i think it would be a very neat tank

yeah i found a fluval 2 gallon tank for $60 with LEDs....low end LEDs but still very cool

I wouldn't. Every seahorse tank I've seen is at least 10 gal(pygmy). Plus from what I hear they do better in taller tanks. Filtration would be another challenge..

Most seahorses need live food or can be trained to eat frozen = a lot of waste. I would just go with a 20H or something. Really cool creatures though.

well that really wont be to bad i just want to put a small fixture on my shelf next to the bed i think it would be real cool

I talk to the owner and friend at my LFS and he says he knows a guy who has 3 seahorse in that same tank on his desk at the office. So after talking to him i posted on here to see what you guys think. Thanks for the advice Doug but i'm still waiting for someone who has tried something like this to chime in

H. Zosterae They only get to be about 1-1.5" and I think that sized tank might be good for a pair or two. The draw back is that they only eat live baby brime shrimp so you have to be sure you can keep up the supply of food. I think they would be your only option for a tank that small. You might want to wait for someone with more experience with them to confirm though, like was mentioned . I was just at the lfs today and the wife saw some ora seahorses so it looks like I may be setting up a seahorse tank as well. I was looking at a 14g bio cube for those.

Go to Seahorse Organisation. Keeping and Breeding Seahorses in the home aquarium. to research some more before you decide to do anything. Like gar732 said, Zots are small, but need newly hatched bbs EVERY day. Seahorses require lower temps, and Bio Cubes in general are not good tanks because of the heat that they produce. Seahorses can be very rewarding to keep, but there is a lot that goes into being successful.

yep those are the 1s they are adorable and I even had mine have babies. They were so small you have to really look to see them.

I put an air bubbler in my seahorse tank so they would have constant food. Just added the eggs every few days.

agreed i have a lot to learn but really want to give it a whirl. then maybe the other half will start getting in to it a little more

Thats interesting, you just added the eggs directly to the tank and that was sufficient enough to sustain them long term?

yep they had new hatching brine just about everyday.
