Hello everyone,
I own a 46gal tank and I recently added a bubble tip anemone to it (about a week ago). I am new to all this anemone caring so I wasn;t sure what is it doing all this week sometimes it was big sometimes the arms were skinny and short. I fed it yesterday a piece of raw shrimp that is took happily and few hours after it spitted it out with a stringy thing (I did some searches maybe this was poop?)

Anyway today it was great and I replaced about 1/3 of the tank water with some new RO water. Right after that it detached from the rock and flipped. I put it back on the rock and now it looks like this.

Any ideas what should I do? Is it dying or is there a chance to save it?

It's 3 months now. All the tests I am doing are on point and the demselfish, shrimps and the corals I have seems to love it

I really don't want it to die I planned on buying a pair of clowns for it but I don't want to add anything else until I figure out what is going on

I still have growth of a brown algea in my tank (I started it off with tap water and now moved to RO). Can this be the problem?

IMO your system is way too young for a nem. Personally, I would remove it, take it back and hope they can save it. There's just too much going on in a system that young, again just my opinion. And yes, tap water is a huge no no, must be RODI, but thats probably only part of the slew of issues.

How much of the water should I change more at this point? I did a 1/3 change today as I mentioned

as for the anemone I saw many people that were able to sustain it in young tanks - Do you have any advise of what should I do in this case?

If i had to guess your parameters are probably swinging way too much. That, or you've got high nitrate/phosphate. You could do water changes till the cows come home and the thing could very easily act the same way. What type of lighting are you using? I really would return it until you figure out your chemistry, any way you slice it something is off.

I will see what i can do about the anemone . I am using Fluval Sea Marine & Reef 2.0 LED Aquarium Light 25k. Is that sufficient?

Bta love love love super intense lights but ive seen em bleached in low light for long periods and not do that. I wouldnt say this is a light problem but more of a new tank, swinging parameter problem

So the light that I have is not bright enough? I got it because they claimed it is good for all reef life

Should I worry on any of my damsels , shrimps or corals?

At this point can i add more snails/urchin/sea stars to take care of the brown algae also?

All the tests I am doing are on point

Please post your actual parameters.
Lighting may not be adequate.
Three months is probably too soon, rule of thumb I use is one year. Assures stable parameters.

You have detectable nitrite?. Do you have amonia? I am not saying the light is inadequit. Just saying i have not seen them act like this in low light. It appears to be more of a water quality issue

Phosphate level is almost 0 in color so I would say between the 0.25ppm to 0 ppm
and nitrate is 20ppm
Ammonia test strip indicated safe

The anemone actually now moved a bit to between the rocks and looks better then the morning

Hi OP! I got my first anemone and she's beautiful but won't latch. I nestled her in and she keeps rolling around everywhere. I helped her once but read not to mess with them. But she hasn't latched at all. Any suggestions? My mentor told me to get a basket and put her in there with a piece of LR. I'm going to but wondered if yours latched on its own eventually. Thanks!

Mine just grabbed the nearest rock and since the bad condition few days ago it is now moving around the tank on the same rock and looks good

I hope someone else can provide you with more info on your situation!

Agree with the tap issue, however I used Zeovit and had my BTA in my tank at 1.5 months. Ya zeovit made the difference but its not impossible if you have spot on maint and care.

Thats unfortunate, mine latched on as soon as I put him in the tank and has only moved ~3 inches and hasnt moved more than a few cm in various directions since.

Sorry for lighting but I just added new corals, not messing with it. An he just ate so he looks like a clam at the moment. Just for reference my tanks only ~4m old.

These guys are a hard subject since there's so many contradicting info. A lot of it is by a tank to tank basis. Did your tank cycle completely? Did u add nitrifying bacteria? I would sugjest turn off all powerheads and place where u think it would like the best so theres no water moving it. I got a steal on a rainbow bta at a conference for 25$. The whole selection didnt look good, some where pushing their insides out. It was that bad. The water smelled bad. I picked the best one they had and i knew it was risky. I got it in my tank and it attached right away. Shriveled up, lost some tentacles due to the drastic water chemistry difference and temp but i knew i had to get it in right away due to the water it was already in. But now its growing its tentacles back, looks amazing, bubbled up, amd recently just started boating my clowns. Eats like a pig. Amd I've had a green bta before amd some say my nitrates were to high and it would die but mine kept growing. My nitrates were over 180. I think it depends on a tank to tank basis like i said earlier. I had another guy on rc that asked about his. It was losing tentacles butt well. Once i put my two cents in i immediately for bad mouthed too saint i didn't know what i was talking about. Saying not to feed it because of the bacteria that lives on its oriface takes care of it, but since it didn't have any tentacles it didn't have that bacteria built up so it was losing strength daily sick is why i told them to feed it. Well it ended up he didn't listen amd it died.

This is my rainbow bta i got and I'd say it looks incredibly healthy.
