Well it happened. I woke up this morning to find 3/4 of my 120 gallon reef tank on my floor. I noticed the seam getting air pockets and ordered a new tank (different brand) but it isn't here yet so the failure beat me too it.

I know most folks on here understand the Red Sea seam failures, but I'm posting because I didn't realize how under prepared I was to deal with it. Meaning I didn't have adequate size bins to transfer live rock and corals to, didn't have saltwater made, etc. I will absolutely have a ready to go emergency plan in place moving forward. I highly suggest all Red Sea owners have on too.

I'm sorry to hear this, crazy this is probably now number 5 or 6 in under 2 weeks posted here? You're certainly not alone.

I know you didn't have enough bins but were you able to salvage anything?

Second question, is there damage to your property that needs insurance involvement? If you plan on making a claim some policy's can cover things we may think are extra then they can subrogate and go after Red Sea for reimbursement. Red Sea has a clause in their warranty they aren't responsible for the animals or loss of property in case of anything but wont stop the insurance company from pursuing.

Sorry to hear this happened but am not surprised. I had a 170 fail but i saw it coming and moved out in time. I'm currently watching my g2 reefer 300 failing and trying to decide on what I want to do. The tank has a lot of SPS including some nice sized acro colonies that I'm not looking forward to moving. I'm 3 years into my first acro dominant tank and it's really taking off and now this 😥

I salvaged as much as I could, mostly SPS so I broke off as much of a colony as possible and kept them in a bin with some water. Saved the fish as well, luckily I have an amazing LFS nearby and an awesome owner who came in and opened and took the fish and corals I could salvage. SO many encrusting SPS, favias, psammacora, etc...are dead.

Not sure about insurance claim yet, but thanks for the input.

I hear ya exnisstech my system was about 2 1/2 years old and everything was taking off, tons of great growth. Heartbreaking to bust it all off in a panic.

I had a fresh water tank leak years ago. I had carpet then so I called to see about filing a claim. I got an awesome rep and when I told her I had an aquarium leak onto the carpet floor even tho I said it was leaking she coached me and ask did it leak or did it break. She then went on to say if it leaked it isn't covered but if it broke it is covered. I took the hint and said it broke and she processed the claim. At the time the only way my home owners would cover a leak or any tank contents would have required I purchased a sperate rider for the policy. Just thought I would mention this.

As these Tanks age, stands to reason more and more failures will occurs. The sad think is Red Sea should have recalled everything affected still in Stock at every LFS and on-line merchant. My LFS still has 3 of the G2's but can seem to sell them. 🙄

BRS has G2's for sale @20% off. I can't imagine there would be much interest. Should they and other Vendors be selling defective Red Sea Aquariums? Their reputation and others will suffer as well.

With the discount a person can buy two and have the back up ready to go when the seam decides to give up.

These tanks are great for folks who want to experience the excitement of the coming Zombie Apocalypse! It’s something we all want to get ready for before it happens.
