Snail ID?

My 5 gal nano, Thought these were nassarius snails can’t remember if I added a long time ago or hitchhiked there way into my tank but have been In the tank for a long time. All small about the size of my pinky nail and spend most of the time in the sand coming out for food. Today I got a small urchin and when I put it in they came out and ate it. I know I’ve lost some Astria snails was thinking murderous blue leg hermits but now I’m thinking these guys, still have 1 Astria that been in the tank prob a month. Possibly whelks?

Yup! Those are nassarius snails.

That is indeed a nassarius snail, but usually they only prey on the dead, or actively dying! They are actually a great member of a CUC! They stir the gravel. Eat detritus. I try to make sure I always have them present in my tank.
