I have had never seen my mandarin eat any pellet food that I put in the tank. I normally use New life Spectrum or Hikari Marine for smaller marine fish. The mandarin would never even look at them. I went to buy New life again and all they had for the smaller pellets is Spectrumax for finicky fish. I fed the tank yesterday and my mandarin went right after them and started chowing down. I just wondered if anyone else had their mandarin eat any pellet food.

had one that ate just about anything i put in the tank. he was HUGE and fat as heck. sadly one day he decided that the food the carpet was eating was a good choice for a snack. the 15" round carpet anemone had different ideas about what a good snack would be. :( rip

Mine loves pellets. And because of it, he's the fattest mandarin I've seen! lol

Mine enjoyed hunting. Never took frozen or pellets.

I first used, cyclopeeze, then went to baby brine and similar type foods, then went to freeze dried cyclopeeze then started mixing it with soft sinking krill pellets. My green target was the most Obese mandarine folks have seen. I posted in before in RC and folks were mystified on how obese it was. Lost it during a tank crash.

Mine is obsessed with frozen brine....rarely touched frozen mysis and doesnt seem to understand what the pellets are...when i throw them in he races around trying to find the food...maybe one day he will accidentally eat it and love it....that would make my day!!!

I started with brine shimp babies frozen, the started to mix 1/2 with this
Amazon.com: MicroCrabs Cyclop-eeze Granules - 1.41 oz.: Kitchen & Dining
then once he was weened off the froozen food and strictly microcrabs I started to mix this in with it.
HBH Super Soft Krill
So he was only touching the HBH. He would literally run from 1 side of the tank to the other just to get the food. I feed all the other fish first then turn off all the pumps(watermovement ) to allow him to eat in peace.

All of you that have them eating pellets, do you have target/spotted mandarins?

For some reason they seem to be far more likely to accept prepared foods.
