I have a hanna portable photometer for copper testing. I did 3 tests by adding 1.25ml to 1 gal (5ml for 4gal) and tested and got average of 1.15 like stated above. Then to be sure I did a full 5ml to 4 gal and got similar but slightly lower at 1.12.
Only did 1 test on 4 gal.
Ok that's interesting. I guess we just have to chalk those up to the difficulties in using colorimetric tests.

Still I don't understand one thing.
Using their answer the strength is much lower compared to directions on the bottle which provides 1.15 ppm a difference of almost 1ppm.
Why would they put a direction which produces 3 x the range they want it to be.
Personally I've been treating ich at 1.5 to 1.75 ppm range with no ill effects on fish. The only fish it suppress diet on was hippo tang. That hippo went through 1 month in cupramine at LFS then 30 days in coppersafe in my qt. Diet suppressant could be because of 2 treatments.

The range they list is what the copper level would need to be if it were non chelated copper. Fritz has been making Coppersafe since 2007 for Sergeant but didn't gain intellectual rights until 2015. When they looked at the technical data for the Mardel products it made no sense to them and they haven't revised their dosing recommendations because they haven't figured out what to adjust them to.

Not a great answer, but its all I've got for ya.

Hi all is this thread stil going

I'm using this product.. Added 100ml to 300ltr of water and tested with the hanna test kit which gave me 1.88ppm

12 days on white spot has come back on one of the tangs.. I'm going to re test today but wondering if I should add carbon to remove and go cuprimine as I normally do.. As this thread it doesn't sound a good product :(

Last week, I ran some tests using a micropipette and the best lab technique I could muster and got a dose of 2.54, 2.54, 2.52 for a full dose of Coppersafe according to label instructions. The concurrent ammonia reading was 0.46 mg/l.

Your dose checks out, so I see three possibilities: your product is defective, your tank volume is off (you can test both of these hypothesis by mixing up some new water of known volume, dosing it, and then testing). Finally, your system could have carbonate material in it that is pulling the copper out.

I would not recommend switching to Cupramine unless you change 100% of the water - else the background coppersafe would render your testing of the Cupramine useless.

What range should I hit on the copper test kit. Please.. At 1.7ppm would you expect to see spots?

I will re check the water volume as its 3 tanks plumbed into one sump

There is a purple tang and blue face angel in there

The dose needs to be 2.5. Even then, coppesafe is better at keeping protozoans at bay than it is at quickly stopping a full blown infection.

Perfect th aks for the reply.. So up it to 2.5 and wait?

Do we have to wait 30 days at 2.5ppm

I'm used to Cuprimine which I used to take to 0.5 maybe 1ppm for 14 days

Yes - 30 days for a full dose. But I'm still concerned why you are only getting a reading of 1.88 at what you thought was a full dose - something is wrong there. Before going to 2.5, you should try to make up five gallons of water, add 4 ml of Coppersafe and then test that. If you don't get between 2 and 2.5 doing that, something is wrong with the test kit. If you do get 2.5, then your dose is off in the tank, and you can use that five gallons of water to do a water change, test the tank again, and then work at getting the dose up.

I run all copper treatments for 30 days....I've just had more experience with Coppersafe.
