Came across some advice in that when introducing new fish to a tank, do not feed until 24 hours has elapsed at minimal. Why is that?

Ive never heard that. I stick to the old acclimate and put new fish into the tank with lights off and let everyone calm down for a while. I’ll usually feed lightly so that the other fish are distracted.

Disagree with that.
Established fish will be more territorial & agitated towards new fish, if not fed. It’s instinct.

I feed established fish a small feeding while new fish is acclimating.
Then later in the day I feed a second time. Most of the time my brand new additions eat the 1st day.
Only occasionally will one not eat the 1st day.
I have plenty of extra caves etc. in my tank, so this helps greatly in reducing stress.

Nothing wrong with trying to feed new fish, but don’t be discouraged if they reject food for the first few days. It takes time for them to adapt to their new surroundings.
